Blog #2: Bad Communication Isn’t the Problem—Bad Thinking Is
Most people think communication is the problem.
It’s not.
Bad communication is just the symptom.
The real problem is bad thinking.
You can’t communicate clearly if you don’t think clearly.
And on construction sites, that shows up everywhere:
Instructions that don’t make sense
Plans that weren’t thought through
Decisions made too fast, with too little information
Then we blame “miscommunication.”
No.
The message wasn’t unclear by accident—it was unclear because the thinking behind it was weak.
Here’s what that looks like in real life:
Someone gives direction without fully understanding the scope.
Someone rushes a decision to “keep things moving.”
Someone assumes everyone else sees it the same way they do.
That’s not communication failure.
That’s thinking failure.
Strong communication starts before a word is ever spoken.
It starts with:
What’s the goal?
What needs to happen?
What could go wrong?
What does the other person actually need to know?
If you don’t answer those questions first, your message is just noise.
And noise is expensive.
If you want to fix communication on your projects, don’t start with better wording.
Start with better thinking.
Because clear thinking produces clear communication.
And clear communication produces results.
